Veterinary Application of Pulsed Magnetic Field Therapy

چکیده

Although the therapeutic use of pulsed magnetic fields has long been in existence, understanding of its mode of action has been poorly understood. As early as 1940, Nagelshmidt proposed that its action was at the cellular level and this has now been supported by research. It has been shown that damaged cells have a reduced negative charge, with subsequent effect on the flow of ions. This causes abuild-up of fluid and prevents the normal cellular metabolism from taking place. Research by Bauer and more recently by Sansaverino(1980), confirmed that pulsed electromagnetic fields can restore the ionic balance and return the cell to its normal functions. Initially, pulsed magnetic fields were applied mainly to fractures, where it was shown that they could bring about a reduction in the time needed for resolution of the fractures. It has been shown that under the influence of a pulsed magnetic field, osteoblasts are attracted to treatment sites, where small eddy currents are then induced into trace elements of ferro-magnetic material within the bone. Also, work by Madronero has shown that calcium salts are purified, hence bone crystals become stronger. More recently, research by Bassett has been investigating the wider applications of pulsed magnetic fields in the area of orthopaedics. Bassett also foresaw the extension of pulsed magnetic field therapy to other areas of medicine. This has now taken place, with an increase in scientific research and clinical trials inthe UK, and throughout Europe, Russia and the USA.

Effect of a static magnetic field on bone healing in the dog: radiographic and histopathological studies

Although the promotional effects on bone healing of pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) have beenwell demonstrated, the effects of static magnetic fields (SMF) remained unclear. In this study, effects of acustom-made magnetic wrap on radiographic and histopathological aspects of bone healing using a canineunstable osteotomy gap model were investigated. After an osteotomy of the midshaft radius...

Scrutiny of brain signals variations in regions Cz, C3 and C4 under Local Exposure of Extremely Low Frequency and Weak pulsed Magnetic Field to promote Neurofeedback systems

Introduction: Researchers have long been interested in the effects of low intensity (less than 500 microtesla) and Extremely Low Frequency Magnetic Fields (ELF-MF, less than 300 Hz) on human’s brain activity. In this study, our purpose was to analyze the effect of local magnetic field pulses around brain regions Cz, C3, C4 on human electroencephalogram (EEG) and induction of resonance effect...

Does Pulsed Magnetic Field Therapy Influence Nerve Regeneration in the Median Nerve Model of the Rat?

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of pulsed magnetic field therapy on peripheral nerve regeneration after median nerve injury and primary coaptation in the rat. Both median nerves were surgically exposed and denervated in 24 female Wistar rats. A microsurgical coaptation was performed on the right side, whereas on the left side a spontaneous healing was prevented. The study group...

Tendon Healing with Allogenic Fibroblast and Static Magnetic Field in Rabbit Model

Objectives- Tendons are integral parts of musculoskeletal system and are subjected to injury. Fibroblast is used in tendon healing, however, there is no proved and reported result regarding concurrent use of allogenic fibroblast with static magnetic field in tendon healing. In addition, there are some studies done on the effect of magnetic fields on tendon healing but the results are antithesis...
